Automatic deployment of mobile application backends - (video inside)

ConPaaS is a cloud platform that allows one to easily deploy arbitrary applications in various locations. We show how a video game server can easily be packaged and deployed on the platform, then demonstrate the necessity of placing the server side of interactive applications as close as possible from the clients: the closest the cloud instance, the better the gaming experience. Allowing application providers to place cloud instances in immediate proximity of the users accessing them is the main topic of the MC-DATA project we are working on.

GTL: An Experimental Platform for Advanced Traffic Monitoring and Forecasting - (video inside)

GTL is a platform constituted with a dense sensors network and advanced traffic simulators. This environment allows the development of new traffic prediction tools (travel time, congestion, pollution, ...), analysis of control strategies, and optimal sensor placement in a heterogeneous environment (fixed and opportunistic sensors ).

Mobility, Privacy and Networks - (video inside)

PrimaMov is a project in which we have developed a crowdsourcing platform based on smartphones, which gathers mobility, network perception and usage data. We will present our work on the visualization and trajectory interpolation of mobile user’s mobility traces, which allows to increase the sampling period, spare energy and keep relevant traces. We also show how these traces and data from a French TelCo operator can be leveraged to evaluate the benefits of offloading the cellular network to WiFi access points.

PlugDB: towards the Secure Personnal Cloud - (video inside)

The Smart City concept is based on the collection, sharing and analysis of data that is either about citizens or produced by them, the benefits cannot be achieved without addressing the evident privacy questions that arise. The current Web model which is fully centralised is not appropriate for managing such data as it raises potential privacy abuse and misuse issues. Within the Citylab@Inria initiative, we argue that personal citizens' data should be managed under the control of the data owner. Towards this goal, many startups currently investigate Personal Cloud solutions, which can be thought of as a secure dedicated box belonging to the individual (kept at home or remotely) and in charge of organizing her personal data space in a database style (see OpenPDS, CozyCloud, OwnCloud...). The specificity of our approach is to rely on a secure database machine to enforce the privacy rules and establish a Secure Personal Cloud. A Secure Personal Cloud can then be designed so as to ease personal data management and allow data computation and disssemination with strong privacy guarantees and protection against abusive use and loss.

Bayesian Perception & Decision for Intelligent Mobility

New technologies for Intelligent Vehicles will be presented, with an emphasis on multi-sensors Embedded Perception, Situation Awareness & Collision Risk Assessment, and Decision making for safe navigation and maneuvering. It will be shown that Bayesian approaches are mandatory for developing these technologies and for obtaining the required robustness in presence of uncertainty and complex traffic situations. Results obtained with Toyota and Renault will be presented.
