Andrea Rau : "I am surrounded by passionate and very helpful people who share their knowledge and experience"
Originally from America, Andrea Rau has managed to combine her passions for French and applied statistics by doing a post-doctoral research visit in Inria’s SELECT research team. From North Dakota to the Inria Saclay - Ile-de-France research centre, she spoke to us about her background, her motivation and her career prospects.

This year, eight ERC grant winners are leaders or members of Inria project-teams. Nikos Paragios, a teacher at the Ecole Centrale de Paris, was awarded a starting grant. Worth approximately 1,500,000 euros, this grant will allow the researcher to reinforce the GALEN team and conduct an ambitious five-year research project on artificial vision and its applications in the medical field. Here, we get to know the grant-winning scientist.
The Parietal team is taking part in the Azure Brain project, in collaboration with Microsoft and the joint Inria-Microsoft Research research laboratory, to analyse large masses of neuroimaging data through cloud computing. Bertrand Thirion, the team's leader, explains the potential benefits of this innovative project.
The five-year SYMBRION project (Symbiotic Evolutionary Robot Organisms) has just passed the halfway mark. Twelve European partners are involved in this collaborative robotics project.
Laurent Romary and Patrice Lopez were ranked first out of 19 participants in the SemEval-2010 competition for the task of ‘Automatic extraction of keywords from scientific articles’. They presented their results during the SemEval-2010 workshop, which took place in Uppsala, Sweden on July 16th.
ANR-JST FP3C (Framework and Programming for Post Petascale Computing), coordinated in France by the Grand-Large project-team, aims to tackle the challenges of high-performance computing. This exceptional collaboration between France and Japan is one of the four projects selected from the many submissions made as part of a call for projects.
