Sanofi-aventis strengthens its commitment to research in France through a partnership with AVIESAN Sanofi-aventis signs agreement with Aviesan alliance
This inaugural partnership agreement was signed with the whole of the French academic research community. It concerns the financing of young researchers awarded grants as part of the Inserm/CNRS ATIP AVENIR programme, and the investment of up to 50 million euros over five years for all public-private partnerships.
The first coordination meeting of the Allistene alliance was held on 1 March 2010. Its founding members are major national players in ICST research: the CDEFI (Conference of Engineering College and Training Directors), the CEA (French Atomic Energy Commission), the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), the CPU (Conference of University Chairmen), Inria and the Institut Télécom. Allistene's aim is to promote collaborative thinking and coordinate its members in terms of foresight and overall strategy, the challenges of advanced training, planning, European and international partnerships, and industrial utilization and liaison. Its functioning will be based on six working groups called "programmatic groups", comprising top-flight researchers, and the division of tasks between a Chairman of the Coordination Committee in charge of overall management and five Vice-Presidents in charge of managing Allistene's work in each of its key assignments.
Science & innovation
On 17 December 2009, an alliance was established for digital sciences and technologies. It is called Allistene, and it brings together the major French domestic players in the field, namely Inria, the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), France’s Conference of University Chairmen (CPU), the French Telecoms Institute and the Conference of the Heads of French Engineering Schools (CDEFI), with the role of coordinating and planning public research in this area. Claude Labit, Inria research director and chairman of the Board enlightens us about his role and work.

Evidence of human culture left for future civilisations - or possibly aliens...
At the end of May, after six years in construction and over 14 days being transported, the largest human MRI scanner[i] - the Iseult project - arrived at the Neurospin research centre in Saclay. Equipped with the most powerful magnet in the world, generating a record magnetic field of 11.7 teslas[ii], this MRI will be able to explore the human brain with a hitherto unparalleled level of precision. The Parietal project team from the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France centre, a joint team with the CEA[iii] and located at the NeuroSpin research centre will, a few months from now, be able to work on this behemoth of technologies and push their studies of the brain even further.
On October 25, Inria and the CEA launched the Fit Your Tech constest to detect and support future technology startups leaders. Open to scientific students and/or entrepreneurs, Fit Your Tech is a new access to research in digital Deeptech - data science, AI and IoT - as well as to the entrepreneurial support networks of the two Paris-Saclay institutions.
