Focus

The Directorate General for Science (DGDS) is responsible for the institute's scientific policy, which is mainly structured around projects: research project teams, incentive actions (“Inria Challenges” to tackle scientific barriers, “Exploratory Actions” to support scientific risk-taking, ...), interdisciplinary collaborations with other research organizations, international collaborations, etc. These projects are most often carried out with partners, primarily universities. Together with the Deputy Directorate General for Innovation (DGDI) and the Deputy Directorate General for Public Policy Support (DGDAPP), the DGDS also participates in setting up strategic partnerships with companies, other public institutions, and government departments. Finally, in coordination with the Scientific Board and the Evaluation Committee, the DGDS contributes to the scientific forecasting activities of the institute and the Program Agency.

Three departments are attached to the DGDS: the Department of Culture and Scientific Information (DCIS), the Department of European Partnerships (DPE), and the Department of International Relations (DRI).

The Deputy Director General for Science is supported by a Director of Research, Deputy Scientific Directors (ADS), and a Deputy for the Operational Coordination of Scientific Activities.
