The Big Data Paris congress is a major thematic event in France. Focussing on sharing experiences, it brings together Big Data leaders through conferences, workshops and an exhibition area.

Stéphane Grumbach , Inria research director, will be speaking at the congress:

"Today, Big Data is a major issue, with regard to both data and intermediation. The fact that algorithms are seen as intermediaries between consumers and service providers has a profound effect on the traditional economy and, beyond that, the operation of taxis, hotels, the press, universities, etc.

In addition to these activities, even State services will need to change, because algorithms allow for intermediation between patients and the health system, between those paying taxes and the tax system, etc.

Algorithmic intermediation enables the development of new services for users, and for this reason it is a very interesting evolution. However we are also undergoing a revolution, since there is major economic disruption. There is a major economic and societal issue surrounding this revolution.

Europe is currently dependent on intermediation systems based in the United States, and is therefore overlooking one of today's biggest issues. If European entrepreneurs are absent from that industry, the whole of society has a lot to lose and little to gain."
