Creation of the Inria Centre at the University of Grenoble Alpes

The University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and the Inria Grenoble – Rhône-Alpes Research Centre have been collaborating for many years on developing a strategy and joint actions, notably in relation to their 22 joint project teams in the research laboratories, which also involve Grenoble INP-UGA (LIG, LJK, Gipsa Lab). This close and long-standing relationship has recently been strengthened by joint projects and initiatives such as the MIAI@Grenoble Alpes institute for artificial intelligence, the Persyval-lab Laboratory of Excellence for cyber-physical systems, and the interdisciplinary projects of the Université Grenoble Alpes IdEX (Initiatives for Excellence), particularly in cybersecurity, data sciences and quantum engineering. 

Convinced of the complementarity of their missions, scientific strengths and research management, Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and Inria wish to develop a strong strategic partnership based on their existing organisational systems and structures, i.e. Inria's joint project team model and the University of Montpellier's laboratories, support units and research federations. Inria and UGA will continue to coordinate their strategies and resources with a view to meeting the challenges facing France and Europe in the field of digital science and technology.

Through the Inria Centre at the University of Grenoble Alpes, Inria and the UGA have adopted a joint site strategy and set up mechanisms to implement it. Under this agreement, Inria and UGA will adopt a common policy for developing joint projects with public partners in education, research and innovation, or with private partners, whether French, European or international.

The aim of this policy is to improve the effectiveness of interactions between the University of Grenoble Alpes and Inria, and develop new fields of cooperation or expand existing cooperative activities in order to increase their impact. It also aims to improve the international attractiveness of the site, with benefits for teaching, research and innovation, as well as job creation in the region. This policy also contributes to the dissemination of a scientific and technical culture. Particular attention will be paid to coordinating human resources, particularly in terms of recruitment, induction and training, in order to strengthen existing or future joint project teams.
