Computer theater

The exploratory action ITHEA brings together researchers in computer science, applied arts and theater studies, around two common theoretical questions: (1) How can theatre performances be recorded and broadcast in digital online spaces, virtual worlds and metaverses to satisfy the needs of artists and audiences? How can video processing, motion capture, 3D reconstruction et volumetric video processing be adapted to theater stages? (2) How is theater transformed when actors and audience wear virtual reality headsets? Which conceptual and technological tools are needed for writing, directing, rehearsing and performing this new kind of theater? To address those issues, the exploratory action develops software, conducts experiments and pursues theoretical work, which contribute to the new discipline of computer theater.
