Quantitative Ultrasound Imaging

Conventional ultrasound imaging algorithms rely on the assumption that the speed of sound is constant in the medium of propagation. Can we overcome this limitation and produce reliable ultrasound images through a fat layer or the skull? This is the question that this project intends to answer. In collaboration with the Langevin Institute, we are developing innovative algorithms capable of reconstructing a local map of the speed of sound directly from measurements. In parallel, we are developing a cutting-edge numerical simulation tool that generates realistic ultrasound propagation data in soft tissues. Through high-performance computing, we can simulate these models on a real scale, thus ensuring the validity and effectiveness of our algorithms.
